Ten Activities for Your Nanny/Caregiver to do with Your Children

Summer is quickly approaching and with that, parents and caregivers have longer hours to keep little ones entertained. With the help of Austin’s The Bundled Baby, we’ve put together a list of ten activities for your kids to enjoy with their caregiver.

  • Ice block rescue
Items needed: muffin pan or silicone mold, treasures or smaller animals, spray bottle and salt
Find small items to place in water before freezing. Once frozen, pop the ice out and let kids “rescue” the items. Salt can help speed up the process.

  • TP roll bird feeders
Items needed: toilet paper roll, bird seed, peanut butter
Spread peanut butter on toilet paper roll, roll it in peanut butter, hang it outside and watch the birds!
  • Paint rocks
Items needed: rocks, washable paint, paint brushes (or hands)
Find a few rocks to paint, let them dry and then place them around the neighborhood to bring cheer to neighbors on their walk.

  • Snack picnic with friends
Items needed: blanket, snacks, stuffed animals
Switch it up – take snack time outside and invite some friends!

  • Scavenger hunt walk
Items needed: Paper, something to draw with
Based on the child’s age, make a list of things they have to find while out on a walk (ex. cat, red car, someone walking, etc.). Use words for readers or draw photos for non-readers.
  • Baking soda + vinegar
Items needed: baking soda, white vinegar, food coloring (optional), squirt bottle
Grab a muffin tin and put a few drops of food coloring down. Cover it with baking soda. Fill squirt bottle with vinegar and spray the baking soda. Watch the kids’ amazement as the vinegar and baking soda mixture bubbles up.
  • Paint box
Items needed: cardboard box the child can fit in, clothes that can get dirty, washable paint, paint brushes.
Anything goes in the paint box! Only rule: Paint stays in the box!

  • Ten questions
    Items needed: Imagination
Think of an animal and have child ask you ten different questions to try and guess the animal (ex. Do they live in the jungle? Do they walk on four legs?)

  • Make an obstacle course
Items needed: couch cushions, string, books, cones, anything!
Place items all around on floor and/or couch. Crawl over this, jump on here, run to that spot, etc.
  • Make up a dance and put on a show!
    Items needed: Music and creativity
Make it super simple or super elaborate. Find a song the child likes and make up some moves! Invite other family members to your “performance.”
