Anyone else cleaning out their closet during this time (or planning on doing it as soon as the kids are back at school – ha!)? In honor of Earth Day, we wanted to share a company that is helping you do just that, while providing shoes for those in need, and offering a fun superhero activity for quarantined kids!
Soles4Souls is a Nashville, TN based organization that has collected and distributed 40 million pairs of gently used shoes in 129 countries since it launched in 2006. It also has created small business opportunities for those living in poverty in Haiti, Honduras and Guatemala.
Seventy billion pounds of textiles (shoes and clothing) are dumped in landfills each year in the US. But if you go to Soles4Souls, you can send these items via Zappos (using any box you already have for complete adherence to social distancing). Then, to get the kids involved (because we’re all looking for something—anything—to do beyond homeschooling), download and print a custom superhero costume here: soles4souls.org/4theplanet/. Then take a pic and tag it with #DoGoodFeelGood on Instagram. (Hint: secure with scotch tape or safety pins.)
This wonderful organization launched immediately after Hurricane Katrina and is currently providing shoes and clothing to those affected by the Tennessee tornados, as well as those who have lost jobs due to coronavirus.
