Meet Wonder Pediatric Physical Therapy and Wellness! It was so great to speak with Amreen and get to know more about her and her background and the passion that led to Wonder. Read more about Amreen and her small business below and be sure to reach out and say hello!
Hi! My name is Amreen Ali. I was born in Karachi, Pakistan and moved to Houston when I was 11 years old. Houston will always be home for me, and my parents still live there. I have been happily married to my husband, Kamran, for five years now and we lived in San Francisco for three years. We always knew we wanted to move back closer to home and family, and Austin was the right place. We moved to Austin in 2020 and have been enjoying kayaking, local taco spots and gardening in our backyard.
I graduated from University of Houston with my Bachelors in Biology and decided to pursue my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Texas at El Paso. I have been a pediatric physical therapist for seven years now and became a board-certified Pediatric Certified Specialist last year. My journey as a physical therapist has been extremely gratifying and rewarding. I enjoy connecting with my patients and their families and promoting independence and confidence through new skills. During my free time, I enjoy traveling with my husband, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with our family and dog, Oreo.
Let’s hear more about Wonder.
Wonder Pediatric Physical Therapy and Wellness (Wonder) was founded in spring of 2022 with the mission to support infants reach their maximum potential and to empower families with education. Wonder is an in-person and virtual private practice that specializes in treating infants with torticollis, developmental delay, and plagiocephaly. Additionally, I am skilled at treating toe walking and various musculoskeletal injuries. Being able to incorporate a wellness component into my practice makes Wonder unique. Wellness is an important aspect in therapy and it is often overlooked. Wellness visits are similar to well-child visits with pediatricians except it focuses on the infant’s milestones, movement pattern and play. Appointments can be made to acquire information regarding tummy time, age-appropriate toys for cognitive development, assess milestones and add purposeful play activities so infants can learn, play and thrive. I knew the wellness component would be essential to my practice after working with several parents, who expressed wanting access to information to promote their infant’s development, track milestones and prevent plagiocephaly. Wellness visits can be in person and/or virtual to all families in the US.
What do you love about having a small business in Austin?
I love the community I am building in Austin with patients, families, and health care professionals that all have contributed to opening my own business. During my two years here, I have witnessed how supportive the community is for local businesses. Everyone in Austin is so friendly, proactive, and focused on health and wellness for themselves and their littles ones. This community have really been my biggest motivation and driver to my business today and keep pushing me for the future.
Where do you see your business in the next five years?
In 5 years, I want to expand my reach within Austin and be more involved in the community by hosting classes, and webinars. My passion lies in treating preterm and term infants with gross motor delay, torticollis, and reflux. I hope to grow as a practice and provide collaborative care and serve all pediatric populations.
What are some of your biggest challenges you are facing with your business?
There are many growing challenges with starting your own business. One of the more challenging ones is brand awareness. However, the people here have been wonderful and willing to collaborate. I am connecting with various health care providers in the community to compile resources for my families and collaborate. My goal is to grow from an at home physical therapy service to a clinic to accommodate more families.
Any upcoming events or promotions?
I am excited to announce that I am working towards hosting baby classes. The classes will be part of the wellness component and a great opportunity for parents to meet and interact with each other. The classes will be separated based on age groups and will entail activities to facilitate rolling, crawling, tummy time and more. Check out our website for information and/or send an email to [email protected] to be notified. In addition, I currently offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to all families to address any concerns or questions regarding their child’s development and determine if physical therapy is appropriate.
We love coffee around here, any favorite spots?
Radio Coffee is my favorite coffee spot. My husband and I enjoy getting their lattes and pairing it the chocolate slice cake from Paper Route Bakery.
And finally, if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to travel to Chile! My husband and I had our trip booked, but had to cancel due to the pandemic. Chile has so much to offer, including the different landscapes, Torres del Paine national parks, and catching a cruise to Antarctica. I love being outdoors and visiting national parks especially during colder seasons. I would like to spend a month exploring Chile and Antarctica!
