Small Business Saturday: Tynes Wellness - Greater Austin Moms

Hey there! As parents, taking care of ourselves can get pushed down the to-do list quite often – it does for me at least! If that sounds like you, then you’re in luck. Today we are chatting with Meghan Tynes, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner of Tynes Wellness. Meghan works to get to the root cause of things like fatigue, weight challenges and mood swings, rather than just masking these issues with medication.
She offers a FREE intro call and 10% off if you work with her and mention South Austin Moms!

We’re back for another Small Business Saturday! Hi Meghan – Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Meghan Tynes. I’ve been married for almost six years to my husband, Carter Tynes. We have two precious dogs, Tucker and Layla. We’ve lived in Austin for five years now. I’m a native Texan that grew up outside of Houston in the town of Santa Fe, TX. I graduated from Texas A&M (WHOOP )in 2010, with a BS in Community Health.

I went on to have a career in healthcare marketing until returning to school to become a nutritionist. My hobbies include reading, cooking, jigsaw puzzles, yoga (I’m also YTT certified), true crime documentaries, trying new restaurants, and wine.

So tell us a bit about what you do.
I am a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Think of me as a nutritional “detective.” I started Tynes Wellness so I could help others by combing through the health history, diet, and their daily habits to better understand where improvements can be made to help them feel better. I use a foundational approach, which means I examine the pillars of health (diet, digestion, blood sugar regulation, etc.) in order to get a detailed view of what is causing certain health symptoms.

From there, I design an individualized plan for each client to address those problems, other health concerns, and provide helpful resources and overall support. We meet in-person or virtually weekly or bi-weekly to review and add goals or edit if necessary. I work with many individuals that experience fatigue, burnout, mood swings, and weight challenges.

The packages I offer consist of either five or ten sessions. Plenty of time to get your health back on track!

My passion for nutrition started in 2017 and continues to grow. I struggled with digestion issues for most of my life, thinking they were totally normal. After trying several diets and elimination trials, I started learning the importance of whole, nutrient-dense foods and how they corresponded to my digestion, skin, mood, and overall health. I started cooking more at home, incorporating more vegetables, making healthy swaps, and became passionate about nutrition.

What sets me apart is my individualized approach to your health. There is no “one size fits all” diet or program when it comes to your wellbeing, so why make yourself fit into one?

Where do you see your business in the next five years?
I see myself and Tynes Wellness as a booming practice helping others address the root cause of health symptoms and heal from within, using food as medicine. I would also like to offer online courses and other helpful resources.

What do you love about having a business in Austin?
The people in this community are truly the greatest. Everyone is so easy-going, supportive, and accepting, which is very refreshing.

What are some of your biggest challenges you are currently facing within your business?
My biggest struggle is getting people to realize that being healthy can be convenient and DELICIOUS. Another huge challenge is helping individuals recover from fad diets. Counting calories, weighing food, and cutting out certain foods all together is not attainable or enjoyable. It can also be harmful to your overall health. Carbohydrates and fat are not the enemy!

Let’s chat Austin favorites!
Favorite Austin restaurant?
Too many to choose from! I know I’m always going to be eating clean when I go to Flower Child, Picnik, or Vinaigrette. You cannot beat classics like Salt Lick or Matt’s El Rancho though!

Favorite coffee place?
This is a little outside of Austin, but Mazama Coffee is so good and the staff are knowledgeable and always smiling. I buy all of my beans there!

And if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why and how long would you stay?
I would go eat and drink my way through Italy and Greece. I think six weeks in each place would be a good start 🙂

Are there any promotions or events that you want to share with our readers?
I offer FREE 20 minute discovery calls to see if working together would be the right fit. It’s a perfect opportunity to get to know each other better and learn more about how I can help you. If you want to work together and mention this Small Business Saturday post, you’ll receive 10% off services!
