Small Business Saturday: IREP Junk Removal - Greater Austin Moms

Don’t you just hate when the organization/purging bug hits and bulk pick-up date is months away? IREP Junk Removal to the rescue! This local business is hauling off the things you can’t throw away and recycling everything possible!
Learn more about Kelly and IREP in this Small Business Saturday feature.

Hi Kelly! I really love the concept of IREP and can’t wait to hear more. But first, let’s learn more about you.

I’m Kelly Dahl Johnson. I’ve lived in Austin for 23 years. I have one 18 year old daughter, Daphne, who plays basketball for LeTourneau University. I’m originally from the Chicagoland area, and grew up between there and Corpus Christi, TX. I love watching all levels of basketball and Austin FC, enjoy live theatre and stand up comedy. I’m also a self-proclaimed beer connoisseur (have frequented most breweries in Austin!).

That must be so fun (and maybe stressful!) to have a daughter who is a college athlete. Let’s hear about your other “kiddo,” IREP!

IREP Junk Removal has been in business since 2012 and removes unwanted items from both residential and commercial properties. IREP stands for I Recycle Everything Possible, because we are really good about keeping things out of the landfill by liquidating, repurposing, donating, and recycling over 60% of what we haul off. We also offer a liveable wage with paid vacation, paid holidays, and health/dental/retirement benefits for all of our employees.

Where do you see IREP in the next five years?

Within the next 5 years, we are hoping to open a branch in north Austin, open our own resale shop, as well as introduce a program into elementary schools that teaches kids how to recycle, compost, and repurpose effectively.

What do you love about having a small business here in Austin?

Austin supports local, as well as recycling efforts! With a growing city, it’s almost impossible not to grow your business here!

Are there any challenges you are facing right now being a small business owner?
My biggest challenge in my business is finding drivers who can handle a box truck that pulls a 16 foot trailer!

*Alright readers, if you know someone who can handle a box truck + trailer – send them to Kelly!

Okay, let’s chat Austin favorites:

Coffee: Summer Moon!
Place to grab drinks: Any brewery!

Anything interesting about yourself you want to share?

I taught myself how to drive a truck and a trailer by watching YouTube videos and practicing backing up in and out of my driveway when I first started this business!

Thanks, Kelly! I really love this concept. I’m always organizing and cleaning out spaces in our house, but I hate the thought of things ending up in the landfill. Mamas, look to Kelly and IREP next time you are thinking of hauling something out to the curb.
And, check out these specials they have right now!
