Meet Lolita - Greater Austin Moms

Lolita Rodriguez grew up in Rockdale & Pleasanton, Texas and is now a 10 year resident of Austin with her hubby and adorable son, Bastian, who she says is “terribly 3”. Mommas, I honestly thought I made up the term “threenager” when my youngest was 3, so I 100% understand. Lolita founded Lola’s Classic Babies to help new parents get set up for babydom- making that transition from the baby-free life to the baby-ruled life. After finding her on Instagram I reached out to chat about Lola’s Classic Babies and life in Austin.

Lolita, what is your favorite thing about living in Austin?

Austin has something to do no matter what day of the week. Very family oriented events and great food. I love the scenery and the great connections I’ve made. People here are very open and culturally accepting.

What are a few things you love to do with your family around town?

We love to fly kites in Zilker Park and hit up the food truck scene for great eats. We attend a lot of events to support local businesses. We love going to the Thinkery and the YMCA @ Townlake. We also love to get coffee and let Bastian play at Brentwood Coffee House (which is a very good work space).

So, tell us about Lola’s Classic Babies and how it all started. How has it grown and what keeps you going?

We hand craft baby accessories and wares; along with making beautiful diaper cakes and beer cakes. We started out primarily making diaper cakes for friends and family. Then a niche was discovered. Here we are today with an inspiring new line of natural products for the whole family. Our products ease the pain of adding a new little to your family by providing items that serve a purpose while bringing you back to your childhood. Our sole mission is to make the transition from child free to baby filled easier.

That is so great! Are you involved in anything else within the community?

I’m the Market Coordinator for Frida Friday ATX. A women of color ran crafter’s market.

I’ll have to make a point to come visit to market with my family. We would love that.

So many mompreneurs in Austin have told me that they couldn’t have done it without other women supporting them. Tell us how your community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

I’ve received major support from my community through working with organizations like Frida Friday ATX, Mama Sana Vibrant Woman, Black Maker Market and many others. Working closely with these strong women has shown me another whole side of Austin. It’s helped me grow my business and find ways to give back to my community.

That’s so wonderful, Lolita. Thanks so much for taking time to share with South Austin Moms! To shop from Lola’s Classic Babies visit the Etsy shop HERE.
