Family Field Trip to the Central Public Library - Greater Austin Moms

Did you know that Austin’s very own Central Library earned a place in Time Magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Places to visit in the world? Whether it had made the list or not, it makes our family’s list of choice hot-spots in Austin.

I don’t know if you’re in the same boat, but we’ve been going a little stir crazy with school being out and all the extra sugar we’ve been eating! After the heavy rain yesterday and the dropping temperatures on the way, today was the perfect sunny Friday for a walk to the bus stop (kids ride free!) and a visit to our favorite library.

With 500,000 books on site and plenty of cozy seating, it is a book lovers dream, but it also boasts a rooftop butterfly garden, a cafe (more coffee for this momma please!), and an art gallery to name a few of its myriad attractions. In the children’s area, which is enclosed, there is a creative craft room with scheduled seasonal crafts (see @southaustinmoms on IG for the upcoming week’s crafts!), a space with tablets and computers with safe internet and educational games for all ages.

I cannot wait to use this outdoor reading porch off the children’s room in the spring!

I am thankful that there is a clear separation of the Teen books, because my older two, would very much like to wander into that section, but I’d like to hold off as long as we can!

A couple of my favorite finds from the day’s excursion:

If you’re looking for story times at the Central Library or other Austin Public Library branches, check out our calendar where I’ve listed many of them! I hope to run into you sometime at one of these local treasure troves.
