Tell us about yourself!
My Name is Christina Cheatham. I usually answer to Chris. I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. My husband and I both transferred to Austin with our jobs in 2013 and plan to stay put until our youngest graduates high school. I started dating my husband 30 years ago and we have been married for 20 years. We have 3 AMAZING kids that keep us incredibly busy but I would not have it any other way and 2 furbabies (Dude (6 yr old goldendoodle)and Koda (2 ½ yr old lab-pit mix this is Skylar’s dog). Our oldest daughter Hailey is a Medical Aesthetician, middle daughter Skylar, is in college studying Biology – Pre PA at Mary Hardin Baylor and last but not least our son Landen is a freshman in High School. Right now we spend most of our time at the lacrosse fields with our youngest and any other spare time we have we enjoy outdoor activities with the family.
What makes boxing at Legends different from other gyms?
I have tried many big box gyms and group fitness classes and get bored with the same thing over and over. Legends has very unique classes that I absolutely love. Every class is different and keeps you always moving. I started with no experience and the coaches have been amazing at teaching me the correct form to succeed in each class. A judgment free zone. Over a year later the coaches have given me the confidence to start sparring. I still have a long way to go however I am having a blast.
What would you tell a mom interested in trying her very first class at Legends?
Do not be intimidated. Everyone has to start somewhere and the classes are so fun. Go at your own pace.
Are there any benefits from boxing that overlap into your role as a mother?
In November 2022 I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. With boxing and change in my diet I have lost over 50 pounds – this has given me the energy and self confidence to be more present with my family and better my health to be able to travel and enjoy things that I couldn’t do before.
At the local moms network, our goal is to always give moms the gift of time. What is your favorite mom hack?
This is a hard one. Keep snacks with you at all times to prevent HANGRY kids. This works for older kids and husbands too lol
